Pro triathlete Joe Skipper is the latest to announce his intentions to compete at the upcoming Vachery Triathlon Festival. Skipper will be racing over the middle distance (half-iron) come the 21st July at the Surrey-based event and will be looking to take the title in the 1st edition of this iconic race.

Joe Skipper has marked himself out as one of the best young talents on the circuit after his iron-distance debut at Challenge Barcelona resulted in a 5th place and a stunning time of 8:23:57. He will surely start as one of the favourites.

Joe Skipper said: “I chose to do the race as it fits in great with my preparations for Ironman UK which I want to do well in. The course looks like it’s undulating as well which is great as it will be an honest race with the strongest guys coming out on top.

The Vachery Triathlon looks like it is set in a stunning location and also has a big prize pot so I’m looking to compete against a very strong domestic field and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Race Director Mark Davis said: “We are delighted to welcome an up-and-coming triathlete such as Joe to our race. The Vachery Middle Distance is perfect for domestic pros who want a big race to compete in within the UK and we are pleased that Joe is looking forward to racing over this great course, offering closed roads and a stunning location.”

The Vachery Triathlon Festival promises to be one of the biggest multi-sport events in the UK. It has attracted a large, international field drawn to the race by a large pro-purse and a fantastic course over the Surrey Hills – marked out as an ‘area of outstanding beauty’. The race offers all triathletes an unforgettable experience that includes a 1.9km swim in the private spring-fed lake, before joining the pro field on fast closed roads (covering an iconic climb to Leith Hill) before returning to T2 and heading out on a multi-lap 13.1 mile run through closed country lanes.

The event promises to offer something for everyone, with on-site camping within the Vachery Estate, an exhibitor’s area featuring the latest in triathlon gear and produce from local suppliers plus fun activities for all the family who will enjoy the great atmosphere and countryside whilst you race. Racers can choose to compete in either the Middle (half-iron) or Olympic distance races, either individually or as part of a relay. The organisers are also happy to talk to clubs about arranging special start waves for them to facilitate club championships.

The Vachery Estate is located just outside the picturesque village of Cranleigh in the Surrey Hills, only minutes from London and the motorways, M25, M23 and M3.
