- Published December 13, 2012
SHIFT Active Media, the leading media agency for the cycling industry, has today announced its first video promoting a new partnership with Google to create the ‘Global Cycling Network’ (GCN) – a brand new YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/gcn) dedicated to cycling – as part of YouTube’s Original Content initiative.
Launching on 1st January 2013, the Global Cycling Network (GCN) is one of YouTube’s Official Original Channels.
The line-up of original TV-style programming includes behind the scenes access to the Grand Tours and events, a weekly news programme, and a weekly schedule of videos based on techniques and ‘how tos’, plus regular Google+ Hangouts.
SHIFT Active Media is actively recruiting for more cycling video producers to join GCN, and will announce brand partners and an affiliate producer programme in the run up to launch.
Simon Wear, founder of SHIFT Active Media, said:
“Our core media communications business has become increasingly driven by the creation of high quality bespoke video content for brands to communicate through both broadcast and online channels, and we believe the Global Cycling Network (GCN) will make a positive contribution to brands and media owners alike. Our goal is for this network to benefit the whole of the cycling industry. By developing unique content and working with other media owners and brands together we can create a thriving vibrant cycling community on the YouTube social platform.
“As part of YouTube’s original content initiative, we can bring together a network of quality cycling video content creators and give cycling global promotion through an official channel. From environmental and health concerns, through to a growing focus on the sport of cycling, the interest has never been stronger, and we’re delighted to be partnering with Google.”
Andrew Croker, Chairman of SHIFT Active Media, added:
“Partnering with YouTube is a real acknowledgment of SHIFT Active Media’s experience and standing in the cycling world. For us it’s a great opportunity to work hand in hand with one of the world’s most innovative technology companies. Together with various race and rights holders around the world, we will be working to establish the Global Cycling Network as the essential cycling channel.”
