Out of the box the black Knight looks menacing and ready to do battle with its gloss black finish and matching visor. The outer shell is dimpled like a golf ball and designed to disturb the air enough to speed its flow over the surface of the helmet. This dimpled area leads the air into the ridges that help to compress the air and speed up its flow as it passes over the shell. Louis Garenau claim this cuts drag by 1 1 per cent.
Unlike many aero helmets the Black Knight has a cut off tail which makes it not only light, but makes handling easier when you look up or to the side. It also allows you to sit with the head low without any irritation. The front visor is designed to help with airflow, but can be removed and used with sunglasses. Louis Garneau use a simple twist and adjust retention dial that is big and easy enough to operate on the fly.
Both length and strap position can be adjusted for perfect fit. This combined with the removable and washable internal pads make for a comfy fit. Ventilation is provided by one large open mouth vent on the front of the helmet. The air is then directed over the head via three internal channels to help with cooling before being pushed out of the rear of the helmet. Here Louis Garneau have created a functional aero lid that’s light, stylish and comfortable to wear.
