Xtra Mile Events are bringing triathlon action back to Leeds in 2013 with the Leeds Xpress Triathlon on 28th July and the Leeds Triathlon on 8th September. Both triathlons are popular and well-established events, attracting triathletes of all levels.
The Leeds Xpress Triathlon is based at the Grammar School at Leeds and consists of a 400m swim in the 6 lane heated indoor pool, a challenging 22.6 km out and back cycle along the rolling, picturesque A61 and a 5.4 km off road run. This is the perfect race for novices who want a challenge as well as experienced sprint distance enthusiasts. Entry fees for the Leeds Xpress Triathlon are £42 for individual entries and £55 for team entries, and entry closes on 24th July or when sold out.
The Leeds Xpress Triathlon is also part of the Xtra Mile Events Tri Sprint Series with five pool-based triathlons of sprint distance taking place around the North West of England, but competitors can register for the Leeds Xpress Triathlon as a single event only.
Anyone signing up for the Leeds Triathlon on 8th September will have a top class triathlon experience. The race starts with a 1.5 km open water swim in Waterloo Lake, continues with a very scenic and fast 44 km cycle leg and finishes with a 9 km run in Roundhay Park where triathletes will be cheered on by the huge crowds that the race attracts.
The sprint distance offers an easier alternative with a 750m swim, a 24 km cycle and a 6.4 km run. The Leeds Triathlon starts and finishes in Roundhay Park and always sees the park buzzing with spectators and the local community showing their support for the event. Transition, the main hub of the event, takes place in the park and provides an exciting spectacle for those who just want to watch. Entry fees for the Leeds Triathlon are £62 for individual entries or £75 for team entries, with entries closing on 5th September or when sold out.
Prizes are awarded in the following categories: overall winners (male and female), male and female age groups, relay team prize, club prize (first 3 athletes from the same club) and male and female novice prizes for those competing in their first year of triathlon.
Triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in terms of popularity, media coverage and number of participants, with athletes being inspired by the Brownlee brothers’ worldwide success and achievements. Based in their home city, the Leeds Xpress and Leeds Triathlon are the perfect races to take part in for triathletes of all ages and levels, from elite through to amateurs and novices.
Race Director Simon Hill commented: “The Leeds Xpress and the Leeds Triathlon are important races on the UK triathlon circuit, and both take place at fantastic venues for competitors and spectators. We look forward to bringing some triathlon action back to Leeds in 2013 and hope to attract some new athletes to the sport as well. The Leeds Triathlon is becoming a great event for business teams to enter with all companies who enter teams benefiting from exposure and free publicity at the event.”
