2013 ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships Contract Signed In The Hague

On 13 July 2013 one of the biggest triathlon competitions in Europe will take place on and around the North Sea beaches of The Hague, The Netherlands.
Besides the WC for Elite there are categories for Para-Triathletes, Juniors and Age Groupers. Participants in the 70-75 year category already have applied.
The event, generally known as the Beach Challenge, will last four days, starting on Wednesday July 10th. It will also offer recreational activities such as a Cube MTB Criterium, a Sea Swim, a Beach Run and a Kids Challenge.
On Monday November 5th the alderman of sports Karsten Klein, on behalf of the city of The Hague, has signed the contract for the ITU World Championships Cross Triathlon. The chairman of the Dutch Triathlon Union (NTB), Henk van Lint, and a representative of the local organizing committee have put their signature on the contract as well.
Alderman Karsten Klein is thrilled with the upcoming WC: “The Hague is very much a sporting city. Top sport and recreational sport get all the support and attention they need. The Hague has a lot to offer, and this is recognized by international sports federations.
Not only does the city have thirteen kilometres of beach and beautiful dunes, it is also easily accessible and it has a great diversity in hospitality facilities. This year The Hague was host to the ETU European Championships Cross Triathlon.
Frank Hamelink of the Beach Challenge organisation, which is 100% run by volunteers, expects participants from at least 30 different countries. Especially from the United States there is a lot of interest. Much of the world top will be there. Conrad Stolz, ruling world champion, has confirmed his participation. The South African twittered after the announcement of the WC location “I already marked July 13 2013 in my calendar- Holland, hier kom ons!”.(red. “here we come”).
For the European champions, the Spaniard Del Corral and the Csjech Erbanova consider July 13th the most important date in their race season. For more information click here.
