The guys from Kinetic PB have been in touch to report on their latest training camp: The Spectacular

The Cold
This is our wettest month and weird weather from hurricane Sandy meant that the epic ride from Seron to the Velefique showed how tough or foolish we brits can be. We could see the snow on the peaks but optimistically hoped that the sun would shine through and give us the typical treat. However, anything above 1600m was baltic. As soon as we ventured into clouds the temperature plumeted and descending was very trecherous. Luckily everyone ‘s bike skills were good, particularly Dr Baker ‘s whose brakes went on strike (carbon wheels). Maturity and intelligence meant that he hopped in the support vehicle to get below the snow line and to the warmer weather, at which point he joined the group and raced down the hairpins and sweeping roads longing for the warmth of the magnificent ascent of the Velefique.

The hot
The next day we had 20 degrees and stunning blue skies. Fantastic for the steady ride to Mojacar. We strongly believe that at this time of year it is important to get some solid miles in but without over stressing the system. That is why our favourite cake shop in Mojacar is doing so well. The team have been mixing the long climbing days with tan development and serious refueling. The carrot cake is amazing.

The performance
The man of the moment is not our pro cyclist, the ex commando Ironman, the 70.3 future star or the junior national road racing champion but Dr Jon Baker, whose lectures and one-to-one talks have got people very excited. We really cannot recommend him highly enough. His ability to predict and map performance and then develop training programmes that truely develop athletes is awesome.

The next opportunity
We will be repeating our ride and learn “Spectacular” weeks in February and April with intermediate and expert level groups. My next email will list the official camps (cycling, swimming and running) that we have locked in for this winter and spring.

Note that you can come anytime and use the facilities for as little as €25 per night.
