NXTRI have begun the process of selecting the athletes that will take part in the 2013 Norseman. With over 1200 applicants from 44 nations, most of the coveted 250 spots are awarded through a lottery system. However, before that lottery (which takes place tonight), the Elite slots for the race have been allocated.
Full release below:
With a very reduced elite quota compared to the 2012 race our jury has once again had a very challenging job selecting the athletes for the 2013 elite group.
All the jurors individual input has been collected, summarized and sorted.
On the womens side Norseman Hat Trick winner Susanne Buckenlei is returning on top after one years break. Now she will face the challenge of reclaiming the course record that was broken in her absence.
Among the men Almere Holland Triathlon 2012 winner Dirk Wijnalda was voted to top the list. With Markus Stierli from Switzerland who came in second in Norseman 2011 after proving that Zombie hill was made for him, ranked #2.

The jury’s selection has been based on the information provided by the applicants, where needed additional information has been retrieved. The jury has consisted of five members, all with a strong relation to triathlon in Norway. All the members of the jury haven been working on an individual basis. The results have been compiled by removing the highest and lowest score and taking the average of the remaining three, creating a list where the top 15 men and top 5 women where given a slot in the elite list. This is identical to the system we used in 2011 and 2012.
The lottery will be held tonight. Winners of the lottery will receive their confirmation mail during the weekend of November 9th.
