The dust has started to settle, the aches and pains from the race (and the Champions Dinner) are kicking in with full force, and the athletes are starting to turn their attention to more important things. Like Twitter. We cast a quick eye over the social media universe to see what said what about their race at the Ironman World Championships. It’s worth noting that not every athlete is on Twitter, and not all of those who are have chosen to tweet about their race. However, here are some of the best from the ones we have seen so far:
Pete Jacobs (@petejjacobs): Have dreamt of having a great day, & winning this race for 8 yrs. It still feels like a dream. Thank you to everyone who believed.
And then:
Pete Jacobs (@petejjacobs): Awake early. For a sec I thought yesterday was a dream. Can’t walk too well. Recovery was non existent yesterday, was a bit busy post race;)
Leanda Cave (@leandacave): F**k yeah……so happy & excited!!!! Can’t come close to telling you how I feel right now. Thanks 4 all your messages
And then:
Leanda Cave (@leandacave): Any minute now I have to give a speech…..shit #IMKona
Frederik Van Lierde (@fvanlierde): 3rd in @Ironmantri WC Hawaii today! So happy! Am I dreaming Big thanks to everyone who helped me achieving this level! Unbelievable!
Mirinda Carfrae (@mirindacarfrae): Morning after = ouch & I haven’t even hopped out of bed yet. Replaying the race in my mind a million times, lots to think about.
Sebastian Kienle (@sebastiankienle): what a day, all in one: from the back to the front, flat, tried to change a tube like never have seen a bike b4. And a very happy 4th place.
Rachel Joyce (@RJoyce09): Tough day. Maybe not my best performance but one that I’m proud of for different reasons. Found me some grit and determination out there!
Craig Alexander (@craigalexander): No excuses, just not my day. Congrats to @petejjacobs, @raelertbrothers and @fvanlierde who put on a clinic up front.
Mary Beth Ellis (@marybethellis): Thanks for all the great support and messages from my friends and family! I feel very lucky.
Dirk Bockel (@dirkbockel): thanks you all for the truly toughing messages. You guys are unbelievable. Congrats 2 everyone out there. What a day- still a mess hrs later
Linsey Corbin (@linseycorbin): 8th in the world! Yowzas!!
Luke McKenzie (@lukemckenzie): Tough tough day in the lava fields. Went for it and paid big time! That was the game plan and it didn’t work out. Live & learn. #finished
Gina Crawford (@Gina_Crawford): So happy with getting in top 10 at Hawaii race. Didn’t have the spark of 4 weeks ago but battled hard to the end for 7th.
And then:
Gina Crawford (@Gina_Crawford): I’m a huge idiot though as I came out of the swim very well placed and put my bike shoes on and forgot to take off my swim suit, lost 1.30!
Rasmus Henning (@rasmushenning): Thanks to all you spectators and athletes out there today who wished me well for the future and congratulated me on a great career.
Tom Lowe (@tomalowe): Seriously disappointed. Average swim, solid run, but my strong biking legs just weren’t there & so split 15 mins down on where I should be.
David Dellow (@david_dellow): Got 9th at the Hawaii Ironman today. Had a sniff of top 5 half way through the run but the wheels fell of unfortunately. Kona is just brutal
Amy Marsh (@amycmarsh): In 2010 I was 11th. I was NOT going to let that happen again. Hung on for 10th today.
Eneko Llanos (@enekollanos): 2 flat tires and an aid station that went flying and crashed into me. Seems that the island is trying to tell me something…
Chris McCormack (@MaccaNow): Devastated right now! Only thing keeping me going is watching a good mate @petejjacobs running to his first World title. #SoHappyForHim
Brett Sutton (@trisutto) probably articulating what Caroline Steffen (@Caroline_Xena) is thinking: there u go an imbicile on motor bike that has no idea destroyed 3 yrs of gut busting work xena draftin pick2m30 up pinged now picks up 4m
