Fresh from his excellent showing in the triathlon at the Olympic Games, Gavin Noble will be competing at this weekend’s Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon (Sunday, 26th August). The Enniskillen native is just back from the London Olympics where he finished a season’s best, 23rd.
Noble has a long and successful history with the Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon, having taken the title three times in four years between 2006 and 2009. The Olympian spent much of the time prior to London abroad but is looking forward to competing again on Irish soil: “I spent a lot of time racing abroad over the last year to ensure my qualifying spot at the Olympics and so I have had little chance to be able to race in Ireland. The opportunity arose to enter the Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon, so I grabbed it.
“DCT is a great race. There’s a very large entry, with some serious talent on the start list. So I know I won’t have it all my own way. I will have to go out hard and carry my Olympic form through. It’s a really fun race and always attracts a great crowd of supporters.”
Event director, John Wallnutt is delighted with the last minute entry: “We had been speaking to Gavin over the past few weeks about entering, but he couldn’t make a decision until after the Olympics. So we are delighted to say that we have Ireland’s top male triathlete competing in the Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon this year. Being able to attract such an entry just shows how DCT is viewed in the triathlon community. Of course Gavin is no stranger to the event, having first competed in it at the age of seventeen!”
“It will also give spectators, who were unable to make it to London this year, a great chance to see an Irish Olympian up close. It is a great day out for all the family and friends supporting their loved ones.”
Noble is racing in the Olympic distance race and will be on the start line from the Garda Rowing Club in Islandbridge at 9.00am.
