Thomas Voeckler's special polka-dot edition Colnago C59. Voeckler only held his KOM lead for a single day, as a large break went away without the Frenchman and Frederik Kessiakoff took the jersey off his shoulders. On Wednesday he reclaimed the jersey (and the bike). Photo: Caley Fretz | VeloNews.com
Thomas Voeckler’s stage-winning ride in the Pyrennes yesterday was the stuff of legends. The Frenchman crested each major climb at the head of the field, and when he crossed the finish line for the stage win reclaimed the King of the Mountains jersey. In homage to an exceptional feat of cycling, we thought we’d take a look around his spotty Colnago C59.

A testament to the hard day ahead: Voeckler almost never rides with two water bottle cages, but on Thursday he asked to have the second. Photo: Caley Fretz | VeloNews.com

Voeckler, like most of the field on Thursday, went with relatively standard gearing for the long but not particucularly steep climbs. A 53/39 ring setup up front was matched to an 11-27 cassette. Photo: Caley Fretz | VeloNews.com
