Alistair Brownlee has revealed that he considered quitting triathlon after picking up an Achilles injury this February. Brownlee, who will mark his return to ITU racing this weekend in Kitzbuhel, is one of the favourites for gold at the London 2012 Olympics.

But speaking to the Metro newspaper, Brownlee spoke about his frustration with the injury and how it nearly forced him out of the sport.

“Jonny will tell you I’ve nearly retired about 50 times.

“It’s tough, especially with an injury like an Achilles,” Brownlee said. “It doesn’t definitely get better, there’s not a defining moment.

“It’s a slow process and some days it feels worse and some days it feels good. It’s been a really tough few months.’
