Gear Check: New Balance Minimus Road Zero

The new Minimus Road Zero replaces New Balance’s Minimus Road and as the name suggests is aimed at runners who prefer a minimalist shoe. At just 1 57g (UK 7.5) these shoes are firmly in the lightweight camp and feature zero drop between the heel and forefoot. They feature light synthetic mesh material uppers that allow air to pass through to keep your feet cool and water to pass easily. Inside this slipper-like shoe there are few seams and no rough edges. We love the way the tongue has been made part of the upper, therefore only open on one side, which helps to save weight. The internal comfort makes them ideal for running with or without socks.
The combination of the zero-drop sole and the slipper-like fit, makes these shoes feel like an extension of your foot. The Vibram sole is just 1 2mm thick and does a take out a little road sting and we love the fast and flexible ride the Zeros offer.
If you want a fast minimalist shoe this is a great option, but if you’re new to this style of running use sparingly as your muscles develop. The Zero’s work well for narrow and medium width feet but those with wider feet might need to try before they buy.
