"London will be my second Olympic Games, and the level of excitement and interest is just massive. Now that the team has been announced it feels like we’re a step much closer. I’ve also got my first race of the season this weekend, which is a big milestone for me personally and now I’m looking forward to the next eight weeks of intense preparation for the summer." British Triathlon today named its team for the Olympics, and after 24 hours of frenzied speculation and talk of appeals, the team is the one leaked to the press on Friday (read the official announcement here).
The Men: Alistair Brownlee, Jonathan Brownlee, Stuart Hayes
The Women: Helen Jenkins, Vicky Holland, Lucy HallIn truth, there were just three spots up for grabs in the final selection process, with the Brownlees and Helen Jenkins securing their places in 2011. Who was going to fill those three spots was the source of much speculation, with Will Clarke, Tim Don and Liz Blatchford in particular tipped to be in the running. In the end, all four of them missed out as Team GB has decided to select a team that would give its front runners (the Brownlees and Jenkins) the best shot at securing Gold.

Jonathan Brownlee
“It feels fantastic to officially be part of Team GB, it’s my first Olympic Games and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m confident that we have a strong team and that we’ll put on a good show for the big crowds that are expected to come to Hyde Park on the 7th August." Photo: Delly Carr / ITU Media
