Gear Review: The Bike Box

Bike Box have come up with one of the most bombproof cases we have used to transport a bike. It’s made from hard plastic that’s shatterproof, yet hard enough to be dragged along by even the most careless of baggage handlers. This is far more than just a large plastic box, though. It’s the way that everything packs inside quickly and easily that makes this so clever. Wheels use their own skewers to attach to the lid and are kept out of the way and separate from the bike with a large foam pad. The rest of your bike sits on another large pad and there are straps to secure it in place.

There’s also provision for you bars, saddle, pedals and a track pump. In the centre of the box there’s an aluminium tube so the box can’t be crushed should something heavy be placed on top of it. The lid is secured with five steel catches that can be zip tied or locked for added security. Another neat feature is the hidden wheels that steer at the front. Not only do these make moving the box a cinch but are out of harms way. T

his sturdy box weighs 1 1 .4kg and comes with a 1 0-year guarantee. This is one of the toughest and best thought out hard cases available today. You can even have the box customised with your name, bike brand and nationality flags for a few quid more.
