Craig Alexander has maxed out on points in the Kona Points Ranking list thanks to his win at the Ironman World Championship, his win at the Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship in Melbourne, and his win at the Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Lake Las Vegas. His 13,000 points are more than double that of second place Timo Bracht. On the women’s front, Leanda Cave still leads the women’s standings thanks to her incredible fall that included a third place finish in Kona and wins at Ironman 70.3 Miami and Ironman Arizona.
Caroline Steffen’s big win in Melbourne, which saw her finish less than a minute behind Chrissie Wellington’s world best time set at Ironman South Africa last year (8:33:56) and ride the fastest bike split in Ironman history 4:35:29, has put her in second place in the KPR standings ahead of 2010 Kona champion Mirinda Carfrae.
Lance Armstrong’s (USA) bid to qualify for the Ironman World Championship remains in good shape despite his seventh place finish at Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas on the weekend – he currently sits in 53rd place. The top 50 men and top 30 women pros in the KPR standings will qualify for the Ironman World Championship, which takes place on October 13, 2012.
Here are the top-10 standings in the KPR. (Note that despite the fact that she remains in the standings, Chrissie Wellington has said she will not be defending her title in 2011.)
