Sports Tours International are excited to announce they have once again been appointed as the Official Sports Travel Partner for the third Abu Dhabi International Triathlon which will take place on Sat 3rd March 2012.

The Abu Dhabi Triathlon was a huge success in 2010 and 2011 drawing in many of the leading triathletes in the world who were all vying for the major prize money which was up for grabs – $250,000. Taking the honours in the men’s elite race was Belgium’s Frederik Van Lierde and British triathlete Julie Dibens who ran away with the title in the female elite category for the second year in succession. IMG will be working in close cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority to deliver an iconic route for the forthcoming Abu Dhabi International Triathlon. The route has been designed to ensure all athletes experience the very best that Abu Dhabi has to offer.

Also on offer is some unequalled prize money for age group winners, around $20,000, which is another great reason to add this amazing triathlon event to your 2012 race schedule.

Course Overview

The adrenaline-pumping event, on 3rd March 2012 in the United Arab Emirates’ capital, retains its testing 223km ‘pure power’ course and will take in a host of Abu Dhabi city sights, including the Yas Marina Circuit, home to November’s Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Its second 111.5km route, which can be run as a team relay, is again featured, with both distances open to elites and amateurs. Plus there is a sprint event comprising of a 750m swim, 50km bike and 5km run.

SWIM: The swim section of the Abu Dhabi Triathlon will take place in the stunning lagoon in the shadow by the world famous 6 star Emirates Palace hotel.

BIKE: The bike course will take in the unmistakable scenery of the city of Abu Dhabi, featuring the iconic landmarks such as The Emirates Palace Hotel, The Sheikh Zayed Mosque and The Corniche all under the safety of completely closed roads. To the east of the city the bike route of the Abu Dhabi Triathlon passes over Saadiyat Island and on to another attraction sure to whet the appetite of the cyclist; the brand new sports and leisure centre island known as Yas Island. Here the route will incorporate the Yas Marina Formula One Circuit which hosted the 2009 Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race of the 2009 F1 season. Cycling around the track in the shadow of towering grandstands will be a once in a life time opportunity not to be missed.

RUN: The Abu Dhabi Triathlon run course returns athletes to the Corniche and takes in the stunning Heritage village to the west of the city ensuring that the athletes will have taken in many of the areas of Abu Dhabi that make the emirate one of finest tourist destinations in the world.
