Press Release in Full: Wednesday 6th April 2011.
Just less than a year ago TriGrandPrix launched with its inaugural event in the UK, attracting a field of the worlds best athletes to compete over a challenging, middle distance course through the hills of Southern England. The series moved onto Zarautz in the Basque Country to incorporate the 24th annual Zarauzko Triathlon, which saw 600 competitors complete the 2.5km point to point swim, 82km challenging bike course, and 20km seafront run.
Since then the guys have been working hard putting together a 6 race series for 2011, with races in the UK, France, Spain, Ireland, and with the series returning to Zarautz for the 25th Anniversary of the worlds second longest running triathlon. TriGrandPrix has also entered into a partnership with Big Cow events, who will be delivering the 2011 TriGrandPrix UK event at the picturesque Emberton Park near Milton Keynes, on the 22nd May 2011.
Jose Torres said “This time last year, I was working with TriGrandPrix as Athlete Care Director, ensuring the competitors in each event were treated in accordance with TriGrandPrix’s novel Athlete Care Charter. One year down the line, I’m looking forward to attending TriGrandPrix UK at Emberton park, not as an Athlete, or with any involvement in the organization of the event, but to watch Fraser Cartmell defend his TriGrandPrix UK title against the likes of Kieran Doe and Nick Saunders battle it out on a picturesque course. On the female side of things, last years breakthrough athletes Alison Rowatt and Julia Grant will go head to head against Kelly Crickmore and Heleen bij de Vaate to be crowned TriGrandPrix UK Champion 2011″.
The series has come a long way since 2010, going from 200 age group athletes in the launch event to 400 Athletes plus a strong professional field, and diversification into Sprint distance event, relay, kids triathlon and a first time Triathlete event transforming Emberton Park into a Triathlon Festival, with activities to keep family and friends entertained whilst the race is underway, and an opportunity for Age Group athletes to win Prize Money in a picturesque setting in Central England, just 40 minutes from London.
The TriGrandPrix series is back with a bang this year, the partnership with Big Cow Events providing a springboard to delivering real world standard triathlon events for age group Athletes to compete alongside world-class professional athletes.
