Updated: Jan 28th 2010 10:44 AM UTC by TriEurope

Heron Lake is one of the UKs premier locations to practise open water swimming. The lake has been providing swimming in the summer for over 10 years and attracts up to 600 swimmers per week Saturday, Sunday & Wednesday, 6AM – 8.45AM. This year the lake will open from April 24th until end of September.

With the increase in popularity of both triathlons, but also open water swimming, it offers a unique place to not only practise your swimming before an event, but also an opportunity to encourage anyone that is looking to improve their swimming ability or overcome the fear of open water.

The lake has some beautiful surroundings with safe and clean water including a clubhouse with showers, changing, food and hot drinks available.

The lake has a resident coach – Rick Kiddle – who has over 20 years of competing internationally, but coaching at the highest level. 1-2-1 session and courses help 100’s of swimmers each year at the lake to improve their swimming. The team of staff makes Heron Lake a fun, friendly and welcoming facility for all.

The lake also provides an opportunity to try out wetsuits, which are compulsory, for health & safety reasons, in conjunction with some of the world’s leading wetsuit suppliers and SBR Sports – www.sbrsports.com .

Heron Lake is conveniently located at Junction 13 of the M25, which makes it perfect for commuters on their way to work.
Heron Lake Swimmers and everyone that swims at the lake have made some of the largest donations to the British Disabled Water Skiing Association (BDWSA) which has it permanent residence at the lake. Heron Lake needs the swimmers to continue to swim at the lake for the BDWSA to operate and help provide its great services for the disabled.
