It’s impossible to know what the competitors at the Deca-Ironman 2009 are going through. But as we speak, you can rest assured that they are embroiled in the penultimate day of the competition.

The information that we have about the event is few and far between, but we can tell you (thanks to Kari Marten’s blog), that the wind has picked up and the temperature has dropped in Monterrey, Mexico.

Hungarian Ferenc Szonyi continues to lead the field, clocking his eighth Ironman in an impressive 11:20:53 (giving him a total combined time of 91:48:25). Pascal Jolly continues to push hard in second, although a 12:27:52 Ironman pushed him further back from Szonyi with a combined time of 93:37:53. Benat Zubilaga is in third (total time: 98:06:35) and Brit Peter Cusick is well positioned in fourth with a total time of 104:44:58.

Of the fifteen men who started the 2009 Deca-Ironman, eleven have completed every race so far.

71-year-old-Brit Arthur Puckin successfully completed the Quadruple Ironman World Challenge in a total time of 62:58:50.

Meanwhile, in the women’s race Brit Suraya Oliver is the only competitor. By the end of Day 8 she had completed four Ironman races in a total time of 83:26:00.
